PATTERN FAROE SWEATER (BROWN & WHITE), SLIM FIT

Download Nederlandse versie

SIZE:

FINISHED BUST: 100 CM
FINISHED LENGTH: 73CM

IN THE ROUND

The whole sweater is knitted in the round (like how you’d make a sock). You start at the bottom, with the body, up until the armpits. Lay it aside. Then you knit both arms, from the sleeve edges up, until the armpits. Then you connect the pieces, knit a large circle over the front of the body, the first arm, the back of the body and then the second arm. Decrease until you reach the neck.

Measures. There is one error: the body width is 100 cm, not 90

NEEDLES

Use 6MM (neck edges and sleeve edges) and 8MM circular needles, 80 CM – or use (5) double pointed needles. The arms are a bit of a pain to knit. You can use 40cm circular needles (6cm and 8cm), or knit them on the 80CM longer needles (split the stiches up). Or use short double pointed needles.

WOOL

300 gr  3ply brown undyed Sirri Wool
100 gr 3ply white undyed Sirri Wool

GAUGE

12 stitches make 10 centimeters with 8mm needles (for me)

Note that you’ll tend to knit looser when you knit only with the main color, and that you’ll tend to knit more tightly when you knit with two colors. I’d recommend making a swatch where you knit both.

PATTERN:

The pattern repeats over 15 stitches. See chart.

BODY:

With 6MM circular needles, cast on 120 stitches (LOOSELY), and join in the round.

1-8:        With 6MM needles, work 8 rounds  in rib K1,P1.

9-23       Change to 8MM circular needles and knit 15 rounds in main color.

24-36     Work the pattern (13 rows). It will fit exactly eight times.

37-51     Knit 15 rounds in main color

52-64     Work the pattern again (13 rows)

65-69     Knit 5 rounds in main color

Now, rest this piece. At both armholes, keep 2*3 stitches on a separate holder.

SLEEVES (2x):

With 6MM circular needles, cast on 40 stitches (LOOSELY), and join in the round.

1-8:        With 6MM needles, work 8 rounds  in rib K1,P1.

9-23       Change to 8MM circular needles and knit 15 rounds in main color.

24-36     Work the pattern (13 rows). The pattern does not fit as nicely as with the body. If you start with the big star, you will also end with it. BIG-small-BIG-small-BIG. Keep the separation between the two big stars at the inside of the sleeve.

37-51     Knit 15 rounds in main color

52-64     Work the pattern again (13 rows)

65-69     Knit 5 rounds in main color

If you knit one sleeve: rest the piece. At both armholes, keep 2*3 stitches on a separate holder.

Knit another one.

JOINING the body and the arms.

Join the body and the sleeves like this:

70           In main color and with needles 8cm: Work  one round of the first sleeve (40-6=34 stitches). Work the front side of the body (60-6 = 54 stitches). Work the second sleeve (34 stitches). Work the back side of the body (54 stitches). Put a stitch marker at each of the joints, give number 1 a different color than the rest.
